与生俱来，他们就是一群具备特异功能的另类，在出生的时候每个人便带有突变的基因，这使得每个人都能显现出超乎人类想象的力量：独眼龙，两眼发出的死光能够在山体上打出一个洞；简·格雷，擅长隔空移物和心灵感应；还有暴风女，她能够控制天象，呼风唤雨。 在这个到处充满着仇恨和偏见的人类主宰的世界里，他们是变种，是另类，是一群怪物。一些人害怕他们，厌恶他们，拒绝接受他们，一心只想将他们赶出人类的视野。参议员罗伯特·凯利正是这样一位“诽谤者”，这位职业政客想通过立法来揭露这些“危险”的异种人。在他认为，由于社会对异种人知之甚少，异种人和他们许许多多的同类才能得以生存。在人类最著名的特异功能大师查尔斯·泽维尔教授的带领下，这些天才的另类学生总算懂得了如何为人类的利益而控制各自的非凡本领。他们的目标是要为了保卫这个害怕他们的世界而战斗。 “X战警”不久就发现他们已卷入了一场艰苦的战斗，对手是泽维尔教授过去在大学里的同事和朋友万磁王，世上最强大的异种人之一。他坚信异种人和人类根本不可能和平共处，只有异种人才应该是这个世界未来的统治者。他和邪恶的追随者们发誓，不达到目的决不罢休，看看他们都是谁吧！大钢牙；变形魔女和有些近视的癞蛤蟆，他们的黑手不仅威胁着人类的生存，也包括其它异种人。为了保护自己和人类，X战警只有一条路--战斗到底！ X战警动画片于1992年10月在美国FOX台首播，1997年9月播完，共5季76集。
